Paint luminous watercolors that resist fading for generations to come
Cylinder mould machines produce watercolor paper the traditional way, slowly building up cotton fibers in layers that create exceptional strength and dimensional stability. St Cuthberts uses this method for Saunders Waterford, endorsed by the Royal Watercolour Society for meeting their exacting standards. Each sheet comprises 100% cotton fibers buffered with calcium carbonate, protecting finished paintings from atmospheric acids that cause yellowing over decades.
Natural woollen felts press the paper during formation, creating the distinctive random texture that gives Waterford its character. Gelatine sizing penetrates the surface, producing a resilient sheet that withstands aggressive lifting, scrubbing, and repeated corrections without deteriorating. This matters when you're working wet-into-wet or need to recover highlights by scrubbing back to white paper.
Choose between White and High White shades in generous 22" × 30" sheets, large enough for ambitious compositions or efficient for cutting down to smaller working sizes. Professional watercolorists rely on Waterford when permanence matters, whether painting exhibition pieces or archival illustration work that needs to maintain integrity for generations.
