Build layered mixed media pieces on canvas that won't warp or buckle
Heavyweight chipboard backing prevents warping when you're working with multiple wet layers. Ranger mounts primed white canvas to this rigid substrate, creating a surface that stays flat through heavy applications of paint, ink, and medium, no buckling when you build up texture paste or layer wet-on-wet techniques. The canvas face provides enough tooth for paint adhesion while maintaining a smooth enough finish that stencil details stay crisp and stamps transfer cleanly.
White priming on both canvas and backing means you can work either side or incorporate the edges into your composition without unpainted substrate showing through. The rigid construction makes these boards ideal for techniques that would destroy paper: scraping back through wet layers, applying thick impasto, or repeatedly reworking areas until you get the effect you want. They handle the kind of aggressive mixed media work that requires a surface with genuine structural integrity.
