Strathmore - 400 Series Artagain Pads
Sketch in eight sophisticated neutral and earth tones on recycled paper
Fiber-enhanced 60 lb. paper absorbs pastels and colored pencil without the slick resistance that frustrates layering work. Strathmore blends 30% post-consumer fiber into this medium-textured surface, creating tooth that grabs pigment while maintaining enough smoothness for controlled mark-making. The construction handles charcoal's dusty application and colored pencil's waxy buildup equally well, giving you a reliable surface across different dry media techniques.
Each pad contains 24 acid-free sheets divided across eight colors: flannel white, beachsand ivory, desert rose, storm blue, moonstone, gotham gray, steel gray, and coal black. Four sheets per color means you can experiment with how different grounds affect your palette choices without committing to full pads of individual colors. Warm earth tones enhance portrait work, while cool grays provide neutral grounds for value studies. The glue-bound format with flip-over cover keeps sheets protected and provides a stable backing surface while you work.
Toned grounds eliminate the intimidation of blank white paper and establish immediate atmosphere in landscape and figure drawing. Mid-tone surfaces also let you work both lighter and darker values from the start, building form through contrast rather than starting from one extreme.
