Work with big brushes without cramping your mixing space or technique
Large brushes need space to move, load pigment, and mix without constantly hitting well edges. Sterling Edwards designed this palette with that reality in mind, creating a layout where 1½-inch mop brushes can work comfortably alongside smaller rounds. The central mixing area measures 8¼ by 7¼ inches and drops ¾ inch deep, enough room to blend generous washes without crowding your brush or diluting colors prematurely.
Twenty-two wells in graduated sizes let you organize colors by temperature, family, or frequency of use. Ten standard wells hold core palette colors; four smaller wells accommodate specialty pigments; eight slanted wells function both for mixing custom colors and storing larger amounts of frequently used hues. That slant matters: it pools pigment at the bottom while the angled surface lets you control paint pickup and test color strength.
Heavy molded plastic withstands years of loading, scrubbing, and color changes without cracking. The form-fitting cover seals between sessions, keeping mixed colors workable for days and protecting dried pigments from dust. At 12 by 16 inches, the palette provides genuine working space while remaining portable enough for plein air painting or workshop travel.
