Speedball - Diazo Photo Emulsion Kit

Diazo Photo Emulsion Kit

Transform photos and artwork into precise screen prints

Screen printing with stencils limits you to simplified shapes and solid fills. Photo emulsion changes that equation entirely. The Diazo system captures photographic detail, handwritten calligraphy, precise line work, and even continuous-tone halftones, anything you can print or draw on transparent film transfers directly to your screen. This opens screen printing to illustrative work, photographic imagery, and typography with actual character rather than cut stencil approximations.

Speedball's kit includes everything for the emulsion process: 7 oz. of photo emulsion base, 1 oz. of concentrated diazo sensitizer that you mix when ready to coat screens, and 8 oz. of emulsion remover for reclaiming screens between projects. The diazo sensitizer activates under UV exposure, hardening wherever light hits while unexposed areas wash away to create your printing stencil. This light-sensitive chemistry means you're working with actual photographic reproduction rather than approximations.

Mix only what you need for immediate use since sensitized emulsion has limited shelf life once combined. Coat your screen, let it dry in darkness, expose it to your positive under strong light, then wash out the unexposed areas. The resulting stencil holds fine details and reproduces subtle gradations that hand-cut stencils simply cannot achieve. Reclaim screens with the included remover when you're ready for your next image.
