Extend working time or glaze transparent layers without adding color
Pure alkyd-oil binder in solid form extends R&F Pigment Stick colors without diluting their intensity. This clear medium maintains the buttery consistency artists rely on for direct painting while dramatically increasing transparency, perfect for building luminous glazes or softening transitions between colors. Work it directly into pigment sticks on your palette to adjust opacity, or apply it to the surface first and pull colors through it for seamless blending.
Two formulations address different working needs. Standard blending medium maintains R&F's natural drying time, giving you extended open time for color manipulation. The version with cobalt manganese drier accelerates setup, useful when building multiple layers in a single session. Note that the drier can subtly shift color temperature, so it works best as an underlayer that you paint over rather than mixed directly into your working colors.
Both versions come as sticks for direct application or jars for brush work and larger coverage. The stick format feels natural if you're already working with Pigment Sticks, same diameter, same handling. Jar format suits traditional glazing techniques and larger surfaces where you want more control over application thickness.
