Dye natural fibers with brilliant, permanent color
Procion MX dyes bond chemically with natural fiber molecules rather than merely coating them. This creates permanent color that survives repeated washing, sun exposure, and wear without the fading that plagues other dye types. The fiber-reactive chemistry works at room temperature in plain tap water, no steaming, no boiling, no specialized equipment required.
Each 2/3 oz. jar contains concentrated powder that yields intense, brilliant color across cotton, linen, silk, rayon, wool, paper, and wood. One tablespoon typically dyes a pound of fabric (roughly three T-shirts), though you control intensity by adjusting ratios. Dissolve in water for vat dyeing or tie-dye, thicken with sodium alginate for screen printing and hand painting, or thin for airbrush application and spatter techniques.
The chemistry demands soda ash to activate bonding, while optional additives like urea extend working time and synthrapol ensures clean results. Store sealed jars in cool, dry conditions and the powder remains potent for years, unlike liquid dyes that deteriorate quickly. Mix custom shades by combining colors, or layer applications for depth and complexity. Natural fibers only; synthetics won't accept these dyes regardless of technique.
