Jack Richeson - Clean-Up Tool

Clean-Up Tool

Refine clay details and smooth surfaces with dual curved blades

Curved blades reach into contours where straight ribs can't follow. This double-ended tool spans 6 1/8 inches, with each end offering a different radius for matching curves to your specific form, tight inside curves on smaller vessels, broader sweeps across larger surfaces. The blade edges smooth throwing rings, refine foot rings, and compress clay at joins where coils meet walls.

Both ends work wet or leather-hard, adapting to different stages of your process. Use the smaller curve for detail work around handles and spouts, the larger for belly curves and rim refinement. The metal construction withstands firm pressure during compression work while maintaining its shape through repeated use and cleaning. Jack Richeson designed this tool for the transitions and curves that define wheel-thrown and hand-built forms, giving you control where fingers alone fall short.
