Transform lightweight fabric into rigid, sculptural forms that hold their shape
Hard, stiff films transform fabric into sculptural forms that hold their shape without additional support. GAC 400 penetrates cotton, linen, and silk fibers to create rigid structures from materials that would otherwise drape and fold. Apply it to lightweight fabrics for three-dimensional work, fabric sculpture, dimensional wall pieces, or standing forms that maintain position through the polymer's structural integrity rather than armatures or wire.
The liquid polymer emulsion soaks completely into fabric weave, building stiffness as it dries. Multiple coats increase rigidity for more dramatic dimensional effects. Heat-setting the dried polymer ensures laundering stability when finished pieces need washing, though most sculptural applications won't require this step. The acrylic film remains flexible enough to manipulate fabric during the working window, then locks into permanent form once cured.
Golden formulated GAC 400 specifically for fabric stiffening rather than as a general medium, so its properties differ from standard acrylic mediums. The resulting surface accepts paint and additional mixed media layers. Fiber artists working dimensionally and sculptors exploring fabric as structural material rely on this medium to achieve forms that lightweight cloth couldn't maintain on its own.
