Canson - XL Watercolor Sheets
Paint layered watercolors without buckling on this cold-press surface
Enough tooth to hold pigment and create interesting granulation, not so much that it dominates every brushstroke. Canson XL delivers that versatile middle ground at a price point that makes daily practice sustainable. The surface handles layered washes without buckling excessively, while its durability lets you lift and correct without destroying the paper's integrity.
Two weights address different working styles. Lighter 90lb sheets work well for studies and sketches where some cockling is acceptable, or when you're stretching paper anyway. Heavier 140lb stock resists buckling better under wet techniques and stands up to more aggressive manipulation, scrubbing, scraping, repeated layers. Both maintain their texture through multiple washes, providing consistent tooth from first stroke to final glaze.
Sheet format gives you flexibility that bound pads can't match. Cut to custom sizes for experimental compositions, stretch over boards for wet-in-wet techniques, or use full sheets when scale matters. Keep XL on hand for productive practice sessions where you're working through ideas rather than creating finished pieces destined for framing.
