Preserve pure whites and create textured effects that peel away cleanly

Latex film protects specific areas while you work wet layers around them. Winsor & Newton's Art Masking Fluid dries to a water-impervious barrier that peels away cleanly, revealing untouched paper or underlying paint beneath. This gives you precise control over whites and highlights in watercolor, or protects finished passages while you develop adjacent areas.

The pale yellow version shows exactly where you've masked, essential for complex compositions where you're juggling multiple protected areas. Colorless fluid prevents staining on highly absorbent papers that might retain the yellow tint. Apply with old brushes (clean immediately with soap and water) or experiment with spattering techniques: flick fluid from a toothbrush, let it dry, wash color over the texture, then remove the mask for organic speckled effects.

Timing matters with latex-based masking. Remove within 48 hours to prevent the film bonding permanently to paper fibers or leaving residue. This temporary protection works brilliantly for preserving sparkle on water, creating negative space patterns, or maintaining crisp edges where precision brushwork would be nearly impossible. Available in 75ml bottles, enough for substantial projects without the waste of larger quantities drying out before use.
