Scotch Blue Painter's Tape Description
Blue tape matters when clean paint lines define your work. Scotch offers two formulations matched to different surface demands, each engineered to release cleanly without pulling paint or leaving residue.
The Multi-Surface version (#2090) handles most painting projects with medium adhesion that grips painted walls, finished trim, glass, and metal securely enough to prevent bleed-through. Remove it within 14 days for best results. This tape performs on semi-smooth to semi-rough surfaces where standard masking tape often fails, think textured walls or slightly weathered exterior trim. It works indoors and out, though testing first on any critical surface prevents surprises.
The Delicate Surface version (#2080) drops adhesion for gentler applications: fresh paint cured just 24 hours, vinyl wallpaper, primed wallboard, wood floors. Lower tack means you can leave it up to 60 days without surface damage, ideal for complex projects requiring multiple painting sessions. Smooth to semi-smooth surfaces yield the crispest lines, perfect for striping, faux finishes, and detail work where precision matters more than aggressive hold.
Both avoid lacquer and poorly bonded surfaces. Choose based on what you're protecting: established surfaces take the multi-surface tape; newer or delicate finishes need the gentler touch.
