Liquitex Soluvar Final Picture Varnish Description

Protecting finished work matters as much as creating it. Liquitex Soluvar provides archival protection while maintaining removability, crucial when paintings eventually need cleaning decades from now. This mineral spirit-based varnish forms a hard, water-resistant barrier between your painting surface and environmental contaminants, yet lifts cleanly with appropriate solvents when conservation requires it.

The formula self-levels during application, eliminating brush stroke ridges that would catch light and distract from your composition. Flexibility prevents cracking as temperature and humidity fluctuate through seasons and years, while resistance to yellowing maintains color relationships you worked hard to establish. Works across both oil and acrylic paintings, adapting to different paint film characteristics without compatibility issues.

Available as brush-on liquid in 8 oz. and 32 oz. bottles for controlled application on smaller works, or 13.5 oz. aerosol spray for even coverage on large canvases. Choose gloss finish to intensify color saturation and depth, or matte to reduce reflections and maintain a non-reflective surface. Apply only after paint has fully cured, at least 72 hours for acrylics, longer for oils depending on thickness.
