Kemper Finish Rubbers Description

Soft rubber conforms to curved surfaces in ways rigid tools simply can't match. Kemper Finish Rubbers flex under pressure to smooth clay without leaving hard edges or tool marks, essential for refining thrown forms and hand-built pieces before firing. The kidney shape fits naturally in your palm while the curved edge reaches into concave areas and wraps around convex surfaces.

Two firmness grades handle different stages of finishing work. Softer rubber compresses against wet clay for initial smoothing and blending seams, while firmer rubber provides more resistance for burnishing leather-hard surfaces and compressing clay bodies. This density difference matters when you're refining a piece through multiple stages of drying.

The large 4¼-inch rubber covers broad areas quickly, ideal for smoothing wheel-thrown bowls or large slabs. The small 3⅛-inch version navigates tighter curves and detailed areas where the larger tool feels clumsy. Molded rubber construction means consistent thickness and flex throughout the tool, unlike cut rubber that can have irregular edges. These rubbers clean easily and maintain their shape through years of studio use.
