Jacquard SolarFast Description
Sunlight develops these dyes, no darkroom, no heat press, no chemical fixatives. Jacquard SolarFast transforms UV exposure into permanent color on fabric and paper, enabling photographic printing, photograms, and direct painting with equal ease. Apply your design, place it in sunlight (or under UV lamps), and watch the exposed areas develop rich, saturated color while masked sections remain undyed.
The process stays remarkably simple across techniques. For photo printing, coat fabric or paper with SolarFast, overlay your transparency, expose for 5-15 minutes depending on light intensity, then rinse. The dye penetrates fibers completely during exposure, leaving fabric soft with no surface buildup and paper with zero relief, just pure color embedded in the substrate. Shadow printing works the same way: arrange objects directly on coated material, expose, remove objects to reveal crisp silhouettes.
Developed color proves genuinely permanent. Washable and lightfast once cured, SolarFast handles repeated laundering on textiles and resists fading on paper for archival display. Natural fibers take the dye best, cotton, linen, silk, hemp, wool, though results vary by fiber density and weave. Works equally well for controlled techniques like screen printing and stamping or loose applications like tie-dye and painting. You're working with actual dye chemistry, not pigmented ink, which means true color saturation and durability that surface treatments can't match.
