Acrylic paint wants to be smooth. Sometimes that's exactly wrong for what you're building. Golden Pumice Gels transform fluid paint into tactile surfaces that catch light and hold pigment in ways flat color never could. Mix these directly into your paint or apply them separately as textured grounds, either approach works.
Fine grade creates subtle tooth perfect for pastel and oil pastel work, giving those dry media something to grip without overwhelming delicate marks. Coarse and extra coarse build aggressive, concrete-like surfaces that hold up under drybrush techniques and heavy manipulation. The granular texture catches glazes in its valleys, creating depth and visual interest as transparent color pools in the low points while highlighting the peaks.
These gels maintain their grit through drying without shrinking or cracking. Apply them thick for pronounced texture or thin for gentler surface variation. Layer glazes over dried pumice surfaces to achieve nearly luminous effects as light refracts through the irregular topography.
