Protect finished acrylics with a removable barrier before varnishing

Varnish removal strips more than oxidized coating, without proper protection, it can pull pigment and damage your painting permanently. Golden's Isolation Coat creates a permanent barrier between your finished acrylic work and removable varnish layers, preventing solvent penetration during future varnish removal. This translucent acrylic polymer seals your paint film completely, ensuring that when you eventually need to remove yellowed or damaged varnish, the cleaning process stops at this protective layer rather than reaching your original brushwork.

The coating also solves uneven varnish absorption. Acrylic paintings have varying porosity, matte passages absorb more varnish than glossy areas, creating inconsistent sheen and potential cloudiness. Isolation Coat normalizes the surface, allowing subsequent varnish applications to lay evenly regardless of underlying paint texture or finish. Mix two parts Golden Soft Gel Gloss with one part water, apply in smooth, even strokes, and let cure for 24-72 hours before varnishing.

This step matters most for paintings you intend to keep or sell. It's the difference between a work that can be properly maintained over decades and one where the first varnish application becomes permanent.
