General's Kimberly Graphite Sticks Description

Compressed graphite packs pure carbon into solid sticks that cover paper faster than any pencil. General's Kimberly sticks eliminate the wood casing entirely, giving you maximum surface area for broad strokes, edge work, and tonal coverage. The flat sides create wide marks for blocking in values and backgrounds; the edges deliver sharp lines for definition. This versatility makes them essential for gesture drawing sessions where speed matters and for building atmospheric backgrounds beneath detailed work.

Three degrees handle different tasks: 2B balances coverage with control for general sketching, 4B pushes into richer darks without excessive smudging, and 6B delivers the deepest blacks for dramatic contrast. The compressed format resists crumbling better than natural graphite while maintaining smooth laydown. Use them for rubbings over textured surfaces, or turn them on edge for expressive gestural marks that capture movement.

Rectangular sticks (3" × ½" × ¼") provide substantial coverage area and come six to a box. Square sticks (3" × ¼" × ¼") offer more control for detailed work and ship in boxes of twelve. Both formats work equally well for studio drawing and plein air sketching where you need maximum mark-making capability without carrying multiple pencils.
