Fredrix - Canvas Pliers
Stretch canvas drum-tight without hand fatigue or fabric damage
Stretching canvas by hand leaves fingertips sore and tension inconsistent across the frame. Canvas pliers solve both problems, providing the mechanical advantage needed to pull fabric taut while protecting your hands from the strain of repeated gripping. Fredrix offers two designs to match different working styles and budgets.
The #7400 features chromium-plated metal construction with spring-return handles that automatically open after each pull, speeding up the stretching process. Deep, precisely mating teeth grip canvas securely without slipping, even when pulling against substantial resistance. This straightforward tool handles standard stretching tasks efficiently.
The #7401 Premier model adds comfort features for extended sessions: rubberized handles reduce hand fatigue, while wider rubberized jaws distribute pressure across more canvas surface area. That wider grip prevents damage to delicate fabrics and provides better control when working with large or particularly tight stretches. The rubberized jaw surface also eliminates the risk of metal teeth leaving marks on canvas edges.
Both models provide the leverage needed to achieve professional tension, the kind that keeps canvas drum-tight and responsive under paint application. Choose based on frequency of use and the scale of stretching projects you typically tackle.
