Das Air Hardening Modeling Clay Description

Natural clays dry from the outside in, which means thick pieces crack as surface layers contract around wet cores. Das formulates this air-hardening clay to minimize that stress. The material stays workable long enough for extended modeling sessions, then hardens uniformly over 24 hours without requiring kiln firing. You can build directly onto armatures of wood, wire, or cardboard, the clay bonds mechanically as it dries, creating stable composite structures.

Extremely soft consistency responds to both sculptural and relief techniques. Press fine textures into the surface, carve details as it firms, or smooth with water while still pliable. The clay accepts paint and varnish in either wet or dry state, though surface preparation differs: wet application soaks in for integrated color, while dry surfaces take top coats cleanly. Natural mineral composition means pieces remain porous after hardening, giving finished work a traditional ceramic quality without the technical demands of actual ceramics.

Available in white, terra-cotta, stone, and wood tones that provide starting points for further finishing or stand alone as natural earth colors. Two size options let you match quantity to project scale, smaller packages for studies and tests, larger blocks for substantial work.
