Water-soluble graphite combines drawing precision with wash flexibility. These Cretacolor pencils lay down traditional graphite lines when dry, then transform into fluid washes when you add water, shifting from controlled mark-making to atmospheric tonal work without switching tools. The graphite core dissolves smoothly, creating even gradations without the grainy separation you get from lower-quality water-soluble formulations.
Cedar casings sharpen cleanly to precise points for detailed line work, while three available grades, from light to dark, give you tonal range for both dry drawing and wet techniques. Use them dry for preliminary sketches, then activate with a damp brush to push values darker or blend transitions. The graphite stays workable when wet, allowing you to lift highlights or soften edges before it dries.
