Grumbacher Modeling Paste builds substantial texture across canvas, wood, cardboard, plaster, concrete, and masonry, surfaces that would defeat lesser mediums. The soft-body formula spreads smoothly yet holds peaks and tool marks while wet, giving you a generous working window to model, shape, and texture before it sets. Once thoroughly dry, the paste becomes durable enough to carve, cut, or sand for refined effects.
Mix it directly with acrylic colors to create tinted impasto, or apply it pure as an understructure for subsequent oil or acrylic layers. Water thins the paste when you need smoother application or extended working time. Rapid drying means you can build multiple layers in a single session without lengthy delays between applications. The flexible dried surface resists cracking even on supports that expand and contract with humidity changes.
