These paints contain actual ground minerals, rhodonite, jadeite, amethyst, Mayan blue, hematite, and piemontite, that produce distinctive granulation as heavier pigment particles settle into paper texture. You'll see effects impossible to achieve with synthetic pigments: atmospheric skies with visible particle separation, landscape passages with mineral-like texture, passages that shift appearance as light catches the granulated surface. The heavier-bodied formula enhances this characteristic settling.
Both sets use Daniel Smith's Extra Fine formula, known for concentrated pigment loads that maintain intensity through multiple washes. Five milliliter tubes provide substantial paint volume for extended exploration of each color's behavior and mixing potential.
