Speedball - Screen Drawing Fluid

Screen Drawing Fluid

Create hand-drawn screen prints with fluid that washes out cleanly

Drawing fluid creates negative space in your screen by blocking out areas you want to print. Brush this water-based emulsion directly onto mesh where you want ink to pass through, then coat the entire screen with Speedball's screen filler. Once the filler dries, wash out the drawing fluid with water, the areas you painted become open mesh ready to print while the filler blocks everything else. This reversal technique excels for gestural, painterly marks that would be difficult to cut as stencils.

The fluid's brushable consistency responds to your hand, capturing everything from bold strokes to delicate lines depending on your brush choice and application pressure. Work spontaneously or build complex compositions by layering multiple applications. Water cleanup keeps the process straightforward, and AP non-toxic certification means safer studio practice. Screen printers use drawing fluid when they want expressive, hand-drawn qualities in their prints rather than the hard edges of cut stencils or photo emulsion. The technique suits everything from experimental one-offs to small editions where organic marks define the aesthetic.
